It is with great sadness that we try to absorb the loss of one of our own, Philip Rosenzweig, who was among the victims killed in the crash of American Airlines Flight 11 at the World Trade Center in New York City on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Phil, 47, was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and was a 1976 graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where he obtained a degree in computer science. After joining Sun in January 1991, Phil held key engineering roles in our software organization, and later in Sun Labs. He and his development team received several patents in new networking technologies. Phil had recently joined a new group as the director of horizontal scaling within Sun's Software Systems Group and was in the early stages of planning this important initiative. In addition to his many contributions to Sun, Phil was involved in mentoring RIT graduates, and created numerous strategic relationships between RIT and Sun Microsystems. He was also an avid sports car enthusiast. Many Sun employees remember Phil for his enthusiasm for creating new technologies. He is especially fondly remembered by the many employees he recruited and mentored over the years. Phil is survived by his wife and two children. We will miss him. Our prayers and thoughts are with Phil's family and loved ones. | |||||
