Sun Giving Programs

— 2006 TED Prize winner Cameron Sinclair showed the Open Architecture Network on stage.
Sun mobilized its technology and talent to support the prestigious Technology, Entertainment, and Design (TED) Prize recipients. Sun supported Bono, the inaugural TED Prize winner, in his wish to raise one million voices to join the ONE Campaign effort to make poverty history. By using a Short Message Service (SMS) code, a text messaging solution powered by Sun, Bono's fans were able to establish an initial thousand messages sent to the ONE Campaign. The Sun solution was used at 133 concerts in 17 countries on five contents in support of a singular message: "I'm not asking for your money. I'm asking for your voice."

This initiative was one of many others in the industry to fuel participation in this movement. To date, more than 2.4 million people have joined the ONE Campaign.

In 2006, TED Prize recipient Cameron Sinclair, executive director and cofounder of Architecture for Humanity, requested a means to allow architects, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and communities to collaborate on generating and implementing innovative housing solutions worldwide. Sun is providing the online platform that will facilitate collaboration and sharing of designs, and will use advanced technology to simulate the geographic/seismic, political/cultural, and financial ramifications of the designs.

The Sun Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant requests.
