- The materials we use to make them our products
- The energy required to run them
- The way we dispose of them at the end of their useful life
One of our primary eco responsibility goals is to develop the most energy-efficient range of products in our industry. We take a giant step forward with each new generation of products. Although the energy efficiency of our products is increasing rapidly, it's a challenge to keep pace with global growth in computer use. Cutting the sector's global footprint is our long-term goal.
We realize that there's no simple answer, so we look at the impact our products have throughout their lifecycles to understand where we can make meaningful changes. This means looking outside our own company at the ways our business partners – from parts suppliers and contract manufacturers to service providers and vendors – affect our global environmental footprint. And, as with our operational impact, we can only manage what we measure. This means collecting the relevant data every step of the way and using it to help us make good design, purchasing, manufacturing, and partnering decisions.
So far, we've focused our efforts on the later stages of the product lifecycle, and we've made significant progress in several areas: our approach to packaging, reducing the energy our products use, and increasing product recycling. Moving forward, we plan to look more closely at the product lifecycle as a whole, including the natural resources required to make our products and how we transport our products around the world.
