It speaks volumes about Sun employees that so many believe in the importance of corporate social responsibility and believe that Sun lives up to those ideals. But we need more information to understand the gap between the two and to narrow it.
The answer lies partly in communicating to employees about our formal CSR program and engaging them in the work we're doing to advance our social and environmental performance. The answer also lies in being a more socially and environmentally responsible company. It's our hope that this report helps our employees understand Sun's efforts and how they can contribute to our continual progress in these areas.
Our goals for fiscal 2008 are to:
- Better understand the differences in responses among distinct geographies and job levels within Sun
- Narrow the gap between employees to whom it is important that Sun is socially and environmentally responsible and those who believe we are, with a focus on nonexecutive employees
- Increase employee CSR Advisory Board participation to include more representation from non-US regions
