2007 Corporate Social Responsibility Report

Corporate Responsibility

Our Employee Resource Network consists of communities that enable employees to exchange information and ideas, network with others who share similar interests, and plan sponsored activities. The focus of the sponsored activities is around attracting, retaining, and developing top talent for Sun along a cross-cultural context.

For example, the Black Employee Network sponsors an interactive speaker series that has covered topics such as "Success Strategies for Winning in the Workplace" and "The State of Diversity and Trends in the Technology Industry." The group also organizes fundraisers, scholarships, and a summer enrichment program focused on promoting engineering and technology in schools. Members of the group have inspired students of all backgrounds to improve their understanding of engineering through courses, projects, labs, trips, and other activities.

The Women@Sun group runs a range of activities for female employees, including panel discussions, leadership councils, and a public online blog to share ideas and raise questions for discussion.

Our Legal Diversity Council arranged for a group of attorneys who work for Sun in Beijing (China), Bangalore (India), and St. Petersburg (Russia) to visit our headquarters in California for three weeks to learn more about the company, the diversity council, and being attorneys at Sun.

This year, the Gays, Lesbians, and Friends (GLAF) group worked with Sun leadership to secure Sun's official endorsement of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), introduced as H.R. 2015 in April 2007. GLAF also helped to integrate a self-identification option for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender employees in Sun's internal culture survey, Power of Sun.
