Going Beyond Regulation
As a U.S. Federal contractor, Sun is subject to review by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. In 2005, we obtained approval to move from site affirmative action plans to functional plans, extending accountability all the way up to our Executive Vice Presidents and our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) when the transition is completed next year.
Our goal is to fully comply with regulations and go beyond legal requirements on employment practices in the countries where we operate. For example, we provide sexual harassment training for our managers throughout the world—whether required by local laws or not. Similarly, our policies provide protection against discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation for all our employees globally. We also work with individuals undergoing gender transformation to promote acceptance and respect in the workplace. Sun is a leader in providing domestic partner benefits, paid disability leave, and adoption benefits for employees.
