Sun believes that the value and power of information about individuals can act as both an economic engine for growth and stability as well as an important factor in creating and sustaining safety and respect for individuals across the globe. Furthermore, the loss of privacy and the unauthorized access of data is a serious and increasingly complex economic and social problem that Sun believes can — and must — be confronted and managed. We engage with public policymakers, industry partners, academic communities, and advocacy groups around the world to improve our understanding of the issues and proposed solutions, share our experiences, and influence data protection and privacy regulations. We do this to promote privacy rules and regulations that can be followed to protect the growing dependence on information as a social and economic driver. We hope that emerging legal requirements and best practices will lead to a standardized privacy framework that affords more people protection and specifies actions that can engender trust in the online world. For more information on some of Sun's activities around data protection and privacy, see the main Data Protection and Privacy section in "The Network." | |||||||||
