Sun believes public policymakers and technologists can share a common goal: to improve people's lives. Finding solutions to important public policy issues such as global warming, healthcare, open computing and interoperability, access to knowledge, and eliminating the digital divide will require close cooperation between policymakers and the technology sector. Working in partnership, these two groups can have a profound impact on the lives of millions of citizens worldwide. The network connects communities, countries, and continents. We believe that more people participating on the network will further drive its development as both a social and economic utility. Technology companies and government policymakers have a unique opportunity to shape its development responsibly, and Sun is committed to collaborating with others to achieve this. Sun strives to be an exemplary corporate citizen and to participate responsibly in the public policy process. When we engage with policymakers, we do so under strict standards of conduct, as outlined in our corporate Standards of Business Conduct. These standards are intentionally more restrictive than applicable national or local legal requirements. In addition, we try to provide information to Sun employees about important policy debates so that they have an opportunity to participate. Sun's public policy agenda in fiscal 2007 focused on three important global issues: open computing, data protection and privacy, and eco responsibility. | |||||||
