As part of our commitment to increase access and participation, we seek to foster innovation on the network and share our innovations widely. We also work hard to ensure the safety and security of the network and the people who participate on it.
We put a particular emphasis on four areas:
- Sharing our innovative products and technologies through open source licenses and communities
- Addressing privacy and security concerns that might keep people from fully participating on the network
- Making the network, and the devices that connect to it, accessible to people with disabilities so that they can fully
participate in the information society
- Promoting interoperability through open standards

The Network — Within the context of computing, a network generally refers to a collection of systems, software, and storage connected together in a manner that supports the transmission of data. Today, the network is more synonymous with the Internet, a worldwide collection of interconnected networks — in a sense, a network of networks. In this larger view, the network does more than just facilitate the exchange of data; it's not just a technical tool. The network is also used as both a social and economic resource. It enables businesses to reach out to new customers that traditional methods could never have achieved. And it enables people to interact and share with others. It drives the creation and proliferation of communities on a virtually unlimited variety of topics. For many, the network has become an integral ingredient in their daily life.
