We want to make sure that companies in our supply chain uphold the principles of integrity, fairness, and environmental sustainability. This is important to Sun, and we know that it also matters to our customers.

We're beginning design and implementation of a global CSR supply chain program to help us influence our suppliers to meet high standards. Initially, we're focusing on our direct material suppliers — those who manufacture Sun products and with whom we have master contract agreements.

As we develop and implement this program, we're grappling with the challenges associated with integrating corporate responsibility processes and practices into our global supply chain. Challenges range from smaller hurdles — like effectively communicating the nuances of corporate responsibility across languages, time zones, and borders — to more substantial ones — such as how to influence those suppliers whose parts and services are used to make our products but with whom Sun does not have a direct relationship.

We face several challenges specific to the environmental impact of our supply chain, including calculating the carbon footprint of our supply chain and incorporating it into Sun's overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, as well as influencing and managing the indirect emissions of our manufacturing partners. Our entire industry — including our suppliers — faces these same challenges, so we'll continue to seek common standards, engage in collaborative efforts like the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct (EICC) and Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), and work with our stakeholders to make progress on these fronts.
