"Technology today has global reach and requires a global perspective, global participation. Diversity is essential. Innovation is about looking at things differently. Engineers bring their unique life experiences to the creative process. Having multiple viewpoints helps us ensure that we're solving the right problems in the right way. It's good for business and good for the planet."

Sun's success is based on the enterprising spirit of our employees around the world. A diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to meet the demands of our global customers. These employees share important traits that make them valued Sun employees, and we aim to benefit from their talent, support their professional and personal development, and reward their contributions.
In our 2007 CSR report, we said we would continue promoting inclusion throughout Sun. This work focused primarily on integrating inclusion into our policies and practices. In fiscal 2008, we successfully broadened leadership commitment to inclusion through various global employee development activities.
Building Broad Leadership Commitment
Sun's Leadership Framework is our roadmap for developing leaders at all levels of the business — from individual contributors to our Executive Leadership Team, which reports to our CEO.
In 2008, we added specific inclusion language into the Leadership Framework for each job level, against which employees are assessed.

These changes make every Sun employee accountable for creating an inclusive workplace. We continue to focus on building internal and external relationships to help us attract, retain, and develop talent from communities that are often underrepresented in the high-tech industry.
Internal Relationships
Sun's Employee Resource Network is made up of groups of employees with similar interests. These groups enable networking and the sharing of ideas and information, regardless of location. They help Sun attract, retain, and develop top talent and provide feedback on our efforts to integrate inclusion into our company. Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) include:
- Asian Diversity Network (ADN)
- Black Employee Network (BEN)
- Gays, Lesbians, and Friends (GLAF)
- Legal Diversity Council (LDC)
- Society of Latinos (SOL)
- Women@Sun
In 2008, we focused on keeping ERGs engaged. We track levels of employee engagement through our annual Power of Sun survey. We met our fiscal 2008 goal to achieve a Recommend Sun Index (RSI) equal to or greater than the scores of Sun's overall employee population. We plan to retain this level in fiscal 2009.
