Sun has revolutionized the workplace by creating Open Work, an integrated suite of programs, policies, best practices, technologies, work spaces, and resources that supports an increasingly mobile and distributed employee population.
Open Work provides living proof of Sun's vision – The Network is the Computer. Employees are part of a network-centric workforce where they can work anywhere, anytime, using any device. Open Work is ingrained into our corporate culture, expanding collaboration and building stronger relationships and communities across Sun and with our partners and customers. We consider every Sun employee an Open Worker because we all use elements of the program, including its technologies, workplaces, and work practices.
Although it was not originally designed as such, Open Work has become a flagship sustainability program, enabling us to reduce transport emissions and electricity use.

In May 2008, the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) included Sun's Open Work program in its report, "." EDF recognized that Open Work has a positive impact on our business while reducing employees' impact on the environment and their communities.
