EHS Compliance at Sun

The Corporate Environment, Health & Safety Management System (EHSMS) is designed to provide a safe and eco-friendly work environment and to verify compliance with pertinent laws, regulations and other requirements. Efficient and cost effective environment, health and safety management is necessary to assure Sun's ongoing success. It is recognized that corporate programs, procedures and plans may need to be modified to incorporate specific local requirements and specific circumstances at the individual facility.

Sun's EHSMS is aligned with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001:2004 standard.

The EHSMS Process Overview

The EHSMS addresses the environment and occupational health and safety concerns pertaining to Sun's activities, products and services, and their potential impacts on employees, the environment and surrounding community.

The Sun EHSMS is a continual improvement process consisting of a Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology that includes:

  • The Environment, Health and Safety Policy
  • Planning
  • Implementation and operation
  • Monitoring and corrective action
  • Management review activities

Although these activities are presented in a stepwise fashion, they are interrelated, dependent upon each other, and represent a system which places emphasis on prevention and continual improvement. The system enables Sun to formulate an Environment, Health and Safety Policy and associated objectives for improvements. Objectives take into account legislative requirements and information regarding significant environmental aspects and their impacts to the environment as well as health and safety risks and their potential effect to employees, visitors and contractors in the workplace. Objectives are based on those environmental aspects and health and safety risks which Sun can control and to which we expect to have an influence.
