Scott's Southern Swing
By Rebecca Smith, Office of the Chairman
Scott spent a few days in 100+ degree heat visiting customers,
promoting Sun's leadership in open source and enjoying some BBQ.
He started in Montgomery, AL at the US Air Force Annual IT Conference.

Before getting into the formal part of his presentation, Scott kicked
off the afternoon with one of his signature Top 10 lists.
Check it out here.
Scott walked the audience through Sun's strategy, to share, which has
been in play since 1982. Sharing, referred to, in technical terms, as
open source does five things. It:
1. lowers the cost of entry for developers,
2. lets Sun get more out of
$2 billion a year in R&D than anyone would imagine,
3. drives interoperability (Sun is the most partnered company on the planet),
4. is more secure and
5. dramatically lowers the barriers to exit.

Following his keynote, he interviewed two Air Force officials for his
radio show, The McNealy Minute. The show, which outlines the
challenges the Air Force faces and how innovation helps solve them,
will be live soon.

Before his keynote, he stopped at "Country's Barbecue" for a quick
pulled pork sandwich fix.
Scott then moved onto Louisiana where he toured a data center in an
undisclosed location.

He also managed to sneak in a dinner in New Orleans, photos are not
available at this time.

He's got a full travel schedule this fall, including visits to Europe.
Korea, Tokyo and Washington, DC.
