Avinash Agrawal brings to Sun more than 25 years of global engineering management experience, having managed teams in major markets around the world, including the US, India, Germany and France. As the Senior Director of Engineering, Connected Systems, Agrawal leads a team of software engineers based in Menlo Park and Bangalore, India. This multinational team works together to design, develop and deliver a set of comprehensive software products that manage large data centers for customers around the world.
Agrawal founded and served as the Managing Director for the company's India Engineering Center (IEC) in Bangalore. Since he opened the IEC in 1999, the facility has grown to employ more than 800 people, created innumerable innovative products, and conducts cutting-edge research in a variety of fields. IEC has been Sun's fastest growing engineering facility, is the largest such facility outside of the US, and has contributed more than 160 patent disclosures and eight major product releases to the Sun portfolio. Agrawal led the transition of multiple large products to the IEC, and its evolution into Sun's top international engineering facility, by designing the IEC infrastructure and business model, and recruiting the very best local talent.
During his leadership of the IEC, Agrawal initiated collaborative research programs with local universities, bringing Sun products and innovation to educational institutions across India, and instructing and recruiting the next wave of Sun engineers through a college hiring program. Along with the development of Sun products and services, Agrawal's management of the IEC resulted in success that drove increased Sun investment in India.
Agrawal holds a Ph.D from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
