Jim Parkinson
Vice President, Cloud Computing Engineering
Sun Microsystems Inc.

As Vice President of Cloud Computing Engineering, Parkinson is responsible for the engineering organization that will develop, build, deploy and support Sun's Cloud initiative, as well as OpenOffice.org, StarOffice, NetBeans, Developer Products and the Communication Suite of products.

During his 20+ year career at Sun, Parkinson served as vice president of Developer, Tools and Services where he was responsible for the growth and development of NetBeans, Sun Studio, Network.com, StarOffice, OpenOffice.org and the Java Communications Suite. In addition, he served as the U.S. vice president of Client Solutions, where he built an organization to provide customers a better focus on business solutions. He has also served as vice president of Technology and Solutions and was responsible for leading the team that supported the U.S. sales force and Sun's U.S. customer base.

Prior to joining Sun, Parkinson held positions with Computervision Corporation as a Development Engineer. He was part of team that worked on the historic port of CADDS4 to the then startup Sun Microsystems. He worked as a design engineer in the automotive and heavy equipment business, where he pioneered the use of CAD/CAM Systems in the design and analysis of Mechanical Systems.

Parkinson is a recipient of the 2005 Sun Leadership Award, which was presented to him to acknowledge his leadership skills in the creation, development and management of the Client Solutions Organization.
