As Vice President of MySQL & Software Infrastructure Marketing, Mark Herring drives strategic marketing, portfolio management and business development for MySQL, the world's most popular open source database, Sun's market-leading Identity Management product portfolio and Sun's SOA, Business Integration and Application Platform offerings, including the widely adopted GlassFish application server.

Previously at Sun, Herring managed several Software and Services Product Marketing groups, most recently driving Sun's Cloud computing offering (network.com) and Office productivity Suite -- OpenOffice.org.

Herring joined Sun in 1999 as a result of Sun's acquisition of Forte Software. While at Forte Herring ran product marketing and the Web channel. Prior to joining Forte, he was product-marketing manager for Oracle's development tools. Earlier in his career, he served as an IS consultant and a project manager for a major international bank.

Herring holds a B.S. degree in mathematics from the University of Witwaterstrand of South Africa.
