Subodh Bapat is a vice president and distinguished engineer at Sun Microsystems, responsible for driving Sun's systems level energy strategy. This includes energy management architectures, specifications, tools and standards for the entire stack, from the microprocessor and system level up through the system software, including the virtualization and operating system layers. Mr. Bapat has served as CTO for Sun's volume systems division, in which role he drove the expansion of Sun's product portfolio to include Opteron-based systems. He was responsible for the overall technology direction for Sun's blade servers, rack-mount servers, telecom-optimized servers, technical compute servers and workstations. In that role, he drove architectures and strategies for next-generation system architectures, interconnects, and networking standards. Most recently, he also served in Sun's software division as CTO for Sun's systems management and connected services product line.
