Sun Launches Sun Blade X6450 Server Module for HPC

June 18, 2008—Sun today unleashed its powerful new Sun Blade X6450 server module at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC) in Dresden, Germany. This new blade provides industry-leading memory capacity and high-performance Intel Xeon multicore processors, which make it ideal for server consolidation, virtualization applications and high performance computing (HPC).

The Sun Blade X6450 is the newest in the 6000 series server modules, and brings the Sun Constellation System to the next level of performance through enhanced features that include up to four Intel Xeon dual- or quad-core processors, an optional 16GB Compact Flash storage subsystem, 24 DIMM slots and 110Gbps I/O throughput. This potent technology combination can deliver up to seven teraflops of performance per fully populated Sun Blade 6048 chassis and up to 71% more compute cores.

Michael McNearney

More powerful than its predecessors, the Sun Blade X6450, "demonstrates Sun and Intel's continued investment in the build out of the Sun Blade line," says Michael McNerney, Sun's Director of Blade Systems.

The Sun Blade X6450 is powered by up to four high performance Intel Xeon 7000 series processors and has 50% more memory capacity than competing blades, which makes it an ideal, energy efficient platform for enterprise databases as well as business applications. In addition, the new blade offers I/O flexibility and centralized system management to help meet your high performance computing, virtualization and data center consolidation needs.
