Sun Announces OpenSSO Express Support

July 23, 2008—Sun today announces comprehensive, enterprise-class support and indemnification for OpenSSO, the open source code-base from which Sun Access Manager is derived. OpenSSO Express in the Enterprise

OpenSSO is open and transparent, so companies can incorporate the latest and greatest in secure Web access management and federation into their own applications.

Alcatel-Lucent

"We are using Sun OpenSSO Express as an extension of our Datagrid Suite, which provides application developers with a single point of access to all their application data from multiple, heterogeneous data sources. The integration with Sun's federation technology enables Datagrid users to create secure, federated mash-ups of partner content. By taking advantage of the OpenSSO project, we are able to leverage the most current and innovative identity and federation features for the Datagrid solution."

--Jeff Cortley, vice president, Subscriber Data Management Business Division, Alcatel-Lucent.

Medavie Blue Cross

"Medavie Blue Cross provides personalized service to over a million members in Canada and due to the needs of our business, we couldn't afford to wait for the next commercial version of Sun's federated and access management software, so we joined the OpenSSO community and started using the OpenSSO Express product, which was a great decision because we've received full support and indemnification from Sun. Since then, we've implemented the OpenSSO version of the product and took advantage of its features. This approach has helped us keep pace with our needs and it improved our time to market. Plus, we were able to have access to Sun's most innovative web access management and federation offerings in open source."

--Vince Blanchard, director of architecture and new technology, Medavie Blue Cross.

Contributing Code to OpenSSO

Sun's engineering team works directly with the OpenSSO community to make easy to manage single sign-on solutions for the enterprise. Some contributions become part of OpenSSO source code, others become OpenSSO Extensions, which build on the technology in OpenSSO.

Now Supporting OpenSSO Express

Organizations looking to eliminate password overload, extend their business through federated single sign-on and centralize and secure web services transactions increasingly want an open source solution. And, the OpenSSO community asked for support, so now Sun delivers it, including full support and indemnification for OpenSSO when it's used in tandem with Sun Access Manager.

Customers who purchase Sun Access Manager now get access to OpenSSO Express, semi-monthly (approximately) builds of OpenSSO that are fully supported and indemnified. That means Sun Access Manager users can incorporate the newest federation and Web access management features as soon as they're available in OpenSSO.

OpenSSO supports enterprise standards such as SAML 2.0, XACML (OASIS eXtensible Access Control Markup Language), and WS-Federation as well as protocols like OpenID.
