Dell Expands Solaris Support

August 28, 2008—This week Dell expanded its support of the Solaris operating system by expanding its availability to nine of its popular Intel- and AMD-based servers. The popular server company now offers support for Sun's premiere operating system on a broader range of x64-based systems than any vendor besides Sun.

Dell's lineup of servers running Solaris includes Intel- and AMD-powered rack-mounted servers and blade servers. Dell also provides its customers with a full range of sales and technical support in an effort to make it easier to acquire the Solaris-equipped systems, to install them, and to run them.

This week's news with Dell underscores the growing demand Sun has seen for Solaris on x64 systems and offers even broader choice of supported systems for Solaris customers. Sun supports Solaris on a wide variety of x64-based systems, and supports an enormous number of peripheral devices and systems option installed in those systems. And, a very large number of business and scientific applications have been certified to run on Solaris.
