MySQL 5.1

December 8, 2008 -- Sun Microsytems announced today general availability of MySQL 5.1, the latest version of the world's most popular open source database. The new release delivers higher performance and greater scalability for large enterprise applications.


MySQL 5.1 performs up to 15% faster than previous versions, making it an excellent solution for demanding Web-based enterprise applications. In addition, MySQL 5.1 is designed to simplify management of large database applications, yet deliver the same scalability and broad platform support as its predecessor. It is now available for download.

New Enterprise Enhancements

  • Table and Index Partitioning enables faster query response times through MySQL's support of five forms of horizontal data partitioning--range, hash, key, list and composite.
  • Row-Based and Hybrid Replication are options designed to attain and maintain the most efficient, safest replication scheme for the application.
  • Event Scheduler allows developers and DBAs to automatically schedule recurring, common SQL-based tasks to execute on the database server.
  • Upgrade Advisor in MySQL Enterprise Monitor provides automated rules that monitor and advise DBAs about bugs that might effect your deployed versions of 5.1.
