Killing Complexity and Boosting Value in Your Network
by Neil Knox
It's a sign of the times.
Network architects have added the question "How much will it cost" to "What will it do for me?" The demand for radically less costly and complex computing solutions is greater than ever. With lower IT budgets affecting the way enterprises are building out infrastructures, Sun is aggressively targeting the needs of this new IT environment.
Over the last couple of years, we've stayed focused on innovation and have delivered practical solutions that let IT managers look at a system and think total value. Sun's value-driven product line expands at NC03Q3 this week to include new entry-level servers, a technical workstation, software and desktop solutions that benefit customers through increased productivity, performance and availability.
Today we're adding three new systems to our ultraSPARC® and Solaris product line-up that lead the way in terms of price and performance. The Sun Fire V250 server and V440 server are designed to help customers maximize throughput where they need it most -- at the web and application tier of the network. Our new Sun Blade 1500 workstation builds on over two decades worth of experience as well as eight years of market leadership in the technical workstation space to set new standards in price, performance and functionality.
We've been saying it for years, Sun is a systems company. Our business is about solving customer problems through network computing solutions. So while you will see us competing aggressively on acquisition cost and performance, our quarterly launches are about much more than that. The products we're announcing today not only lead on low acquisition costs -- they are also used as building blocks to deliver complete nework computing solutions. These solutions eliminate the multi-billion dollar challenge of virus attacks and security breaches, and reduce the trillion dollar-plus management and operations cost faced by enterprises.
