Solaris: Operating Environment or Motion Picture?

Earlier this month, the major motion picture, Solaris starring George Clooney, debuted in theaters. Sun was curious. Was the film named after Sun's Solaris, the #1 UNIX Operating Environment? Would the movie benefit from the strength of the Solaris brand in the technology marketplace? After some consideration, Sun determined the Top Ten reasons why Solaris, the movie, is named after Sun's Operating Environment:

    10. In the plot of the movie, George Clooney is given the perilous task of saving a space expedition by studying the mysteries of the planet Solaris - well, what other name would they have chosen for such mission critical activity?
    9. Solaris the movie is a story of love, redemption and second chances ... sort of like Solaris on x86
    8. Both have many special effects
    7. Once you're near Solaris, you fall in love
    6. Like the movie, Solaris is ahead of its time
    5. Because if the world is in danger, all eyes turn to Solaris
    4. Because Academy Award winners choose winners
    3. Like the planet, Solaris OE is out of this world
    2. Because what kinda name is AIX anyway?
    1. Because Solaris is as hot as George Clooney!

On December 4th, Sun gathered a group of media and analysts close to the company for a private screening of the movie to determine the real reason "Solaris" is worth watching ... For more information on Solaris (Sun's version), please visit: http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/
