Sun Chairman and CEO Scott McNealy will deliver the opening keynote at EDUCAUSE 2005, the premier information technology event in higher education taking place October 18-21 in Orlando, FL.
For the past 24 years Sun Microsystems' vision has been to connect everything and everyone to the network and now that vision is becoming reality. As the Internet comes of age and allows individuals to not only connect, but continuously interact, communities are thriving and are dramatically accelerating the pace of global change. McNealy will highlight the unique challenges and opportunities this new era represents for the educational community, and how educators can tap into the Participation Age.
In a significant corporate move to bring the benefits of open source to education, McNealy will also unveil the spin off the Global Education and Learning Community(GELC) as a nonprofit organization serving the needs of the education community. The move will help to improve education through the sharing of open content and best practices through online access.
