James Baty Dr. James Baty is currently Chief Architect for Sun Professional Services Global .Com Consulting and has been SunPS's Senior Internet Architect for the last 4+ years. In addition, he is a Sun Distinguished Engineer and is the first person to achieve that recognition from the Sun Services organization. Dr. Baty is an expert in the design, implementation and management of information technology, and is renowned for his work in designing the technical architectures for a brand new industry of service providers and e-commerce systems. Jim has been the lead Architect of the Internet infrastructure design for many of Sun's customers, including global telecommunications and financial services companies. In this capacity he has led the development of several large-scale, electronic commerce system architectures, and is a recognized expert on distributed high availability design and capacity planning and modeling. During his tenure, Jim has been a technology leader amongst technical leaders in Sun Professional Services deep competency organization. He provides integrative technical leadership, mentorship, and evangelism across the entire .Com Consulting team, and is a thought leader, academic and industry innovator in the area of architecture patterns for large Internet systems. Jim brings over 20 years of experience in the IT industry, including 7 years at MCC in Austin, where he was the program administrator for the software technology program. He holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Texas, specializing in the convergence of computer-human interface and artificial intelligence issues in the design of electronic shopping systems.
Tom Berghoff As Sun Services's Vice President of Marketing for Worldwide Support Services, Tom Berghoff manages the product and program development of Sun's global hardware, software and site services product support portfolio. He is also responsible for the development of Sun Services OEM and reseller support programs. Since joining Sun Sun Services in 1986, Berghoff has held a variety of positions in marketing, sales and field management, including Regional Manager for Latin America, Business Development Manager for SunService Intercontinental and Manager of Worldwide Sales Support. Tom came to Sun from IBM, where he worked in a variety of capacities in datacenter operations and manufacturing production planning. Berghoff holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from California State University, an MBA from the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University and a postgraduate management certificate.
Jon Caputo Jon Caputo, Vice President, is responsible for leading the sales and delivery of Sun Microsystems' Professional Services in the Americas. This includes implementing new consulting practices and technology initiatives to complement Sun's market strategy; managing customer communications and relationships; and assisting in developing reusable assets and service methodologies. Jon comes to Sun with an extensive background in managing large international and domestic Professional Services organizations. Before joining Sun in 1999, Jon was Vice President of Customer Operations and Professional Services for New World Systems Corporation, a software company specializing in solutions for the public sector. Prior to working at New World Systems, Jon spent the majority of his career at Digital Equipment Corporation. In his last role at Digital as Vice President, Americas Systems Integration, Jon was instrumental in growing the business substantially, aligning practices closely with the sales teams and implementing an integrated partnering strategy with the top consulting firms and major system integrators to complement Digital's capabilities in key high growth markets. Jon held other key positions during his tenure, including Vice President, Asia Pacific Integration Services, Manager of the New York District Sales, Director Corporate Program Management Office, and Director Sales Information Systems. Jon holds a Bachelor's of Science in Information Science from Point Park College, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has participated in continuing Executive Management, Professional Management, and Advanced International Management programs at the Columbia School of Business, Harvard Business School, and the INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France, respectively.
Kevin Coyne As Director of Business Operations for Sun, Kevin Coyne manages the operational readiness for the consulting, training and support arms of Sun Services. He is also responsible for strategic planning and program management for Sun Services. Spearheaded Sun's s Since joining Sun in 1990, Coyne has held a variety of positions related to customer support, including Director of Sun's Customer Care Centers for North and South America, Regional Operations Service Manager, and Manager of Service Engineers for the Midwest region. Prior to Sun, Coyne worked as a Regional Technical Sales Support Manager for Data General and Data Center Operations Manager for a Fortune 1000 manufacturing company. Coyne holds (ADD Educational background here) and spearheaded Sun's customer support and disaster recovery efforts resulting from the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
As Vice President for Marketing and Strategy for Sun Services, Terry Erdle is responsible for driving the development and implementation of Services strategy, leading the definition and execution of Sun Services marketing programs, and coordinating all activities closely with Sun's Global Sales Organization as well as Sun Corporate Marketing. Terry plays a key role in leading Sun Services' transition to its new preventive approach to delivering advanced services to customers and partners that turn technology into network computing solutions. Prior to accepting this position, Terry served as Senior Vice President of Knowledge Services, in which he was responsible for the Sun Knowledge Services (SKS) initiative, a portfolio of knowledge-based businesses designed to create and deliver measurable business value for customers, partners, and employees. Before this, Terry was responsible for the strategy, planning and operations of Sun Educational Services (SES), the Sun Microsystems group that trains customers on Sun technologies and helps enterprises improve performance by better managing their talent. He has also headed field operations for SES in North, Central and South America, with revenue responsibility of over $200M in FY01, and has served as Director of Marketing, Business Development and Sales Support for SES worldwide. Before joining Sun, Terry was Vice President of Worldwide Information Management at The Hibbert Group where he led the introduction of Web based information distribution strategies for dozens of the industry's leading technology companies. Before Hibbert, Terry was Vice President of Sales, Vice President of Marketing, and Vice President of Product Development at Information Handling Services (IHS) in Denver, the world's largest publisher of technical data. Terry has spent nearly twenty years in the technology arena, in positions ranging from systems integrators to CAD/CAM software providers. His professional tenures also include Mattel Toys, Lockheed, Boeing Computer Systems, and Auto-trol Technology. Terry holds a B.S. in computer science and philosophy from Colorado State University and an M.Sc. in computer science from Oxford University in England. He maintains several professional affiliations in both technology and marketing groups and associations.
Ed Glover Ed is responsible for leading Sun Professional Services' strategy for the deployment of best-in-class expertise in the areas of security and customer engineering. Ed's organization plays a critical role in developing new services, participating in Sun Microsystems' security strategy and providing consulting expertise for Sun's customers. Ed has been with Sun since 1995 and with Sun Professional Services since 1997. Before joining Sun, Ed spent over 15 years in various capacities in the security field. He was a Senior Manager and a Regional Practice Leader for Price Waterhouse in the area of Security and Business Continuity. Prior to that, Ed was the Chief Security Officer for Del Monte Foods, a subsidiary of RJR Nabisco. Ed holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and an Executive MBA from Saint Mary's College in Moraga, CA.
Don Grantham is Senior Vice President for Sun Support Services. Previous to Don's joining Support Services, he served as the Vice President of Worldwide Sales Operations in Sun's Global Sales Organization (GSO). Don joined Sun's EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) sales organization in October 1999. Since joining Sun's EMEA sales and has held positions as VP EMEA Sales Operations and as VP EMEA Product Sales. Don's tenure at Sun follows on a successful 17-year career with IBM. Before entering the corporate world, Don spent several years at a Premiership soccer club in the UK. This proved a somewhat surprising environment from which to develop the basics of business leadership. In that setting, he learned that delivering exceptional performance and results in a team sport requires more than individual high energy, stamina, and dedication. Success requires cooperation, collaboration, and trust in one's teammates. The charter of Don's current team, Support Services, is to become the compelling reason for customers to repeatedly choose Sun. Don divides his time between the US, the UK, and various airport terminals. He and his wife are parents of two teen aged daughters.
Chris James Chris James is the Worldwide Senior Director for Sun's Education Consulting Services based in Colorado. He is responsible for helping customers identify needs for learning solutions based on their organizational goals, job role requirements and skills needs. His group provides analyses, designs appropriate organizational approaches, and creates customized learning and certification plans. His skills and experience are in analysis of workforce development and training needs related to major change programs and system integration projects. Since joining Sun in 1995, Chris has built an Education Consulting Practice, consisting of 120 consultants worldwide, to support Sun's overall commitment to Education Services.
Enis Konuk Enis Konuk, recently Sun's SE Director Northeast Area, Americas, has moved to PS as Director, Global Storage Professional Services. In this role, Enis will be driving the global storage competency practice, and the storage service strategy and offerings. Enis joined Sun in 1988 as a Technical Consultant and was promoted to Area SE covering CASE/00/SPARC technologies for the Northeast Area in 1990. In 1992, Enis became the Regional SE Manager for the Reseller Region in the Northeast. In 1995, he was promoted to be the Area SE Director for the U.S. Reseller Area. Since 1998, Enis has held the Northeast Area SE Director position where he implemented the new SE Engagement Model. Enis has been a seven times SunRise club winner and is a Leadership Award recipient for 2000. Prior to Sun, Enis spent seven years in software engineering at Micrion Corporation and BTU Engineering, holding a number of technical development and project management roles. Enis has a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and a Masters degree in Computer Science, both from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA. Enis and his family are located in Boston, MA. Brad Saathoff A twenty-four year veteran of customer service and field support, Brad Saathoff has expertise in service organization management, customer satisfaction, product quality management, technical support operations, knowledge management and web-based services. Brad joined Sun Microsystems and the Sun Services organization in 1989. During the past thirteen years he has led various field support teams, delivering record-breaking customer satisfaction during the tremendous growth years at Sun. In 1997, Brad launched the Americas Technical Operations group which included solution center operations, logistics operations and the quality management system in the new Colorado campus for Sun. His current role as Vice President of Sun Support Services encompasses field delivery and support operations for the Americas $1.5 billion service organization. Today, Brad is pursuing creation of new services surrounding knowledge management, web-based services and Strategic Account Services (SAS) as global initiatives for Enterprise Services. Prior to Sun Microsystems, Brad spent eleven years at Data General Corporation in various technical and management roles. Susan St. Ledger Susan St. Ledger is the Vice President of Worldwide Services Sales for Sun Microsystems, Inc., based in Menlo Park, CA. Generating over $3 billion dollars in revenues, Sun's services organization offers a diversity of services that include consulting, knowledge, and support services. Since joining Sun in 1992, Susan has served in a number of leadership roles in technical, sales, and managerial capacities. Susan started her career at Sun as a pre-sales Systems Engineer where she helped architect systems and solutions to meet particular customer needs. After 7 years on the East Coast with Sun Microsystems, Susan furthered her technological career by re-locating to the West Coast to become the Director of Systems Engineering. Susan was then selected for a rotational assignment to become Executive Assistant to the President, Ed Zander. After completing her rotational assignment with Mr. Zander, Susan was named Director of Software Sales for the West coast where she led an organization that was responsible for the sales of Sun's middleware software. Continuing to leverage her software expertise, Susan was then selected to lead our Independent Software Sales (ISV) organization for the U.S. In this capacity, Susan's primary responsibility was creating and driving "Go To Market" Sales initiatives with our strategic software partners. Prior to Sun, Susan spent 7 years as a software developer at the National Security Agency (NSA) where she developed a deep knowledge of mission critical development, architecture, deployment, and operations. Susan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Scranton, located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Hal Stern Hal Stern is Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Sun Services. His job includes defining next-generation network computing service offerings in the support, education and professional services spaces, including utility computing, managed services, new consulting practice areas, and the leverage of Sun's services-oriented intellectual capital. Hal was involved in both the Sun ONE and Liberty Alliance Project architectures from their formative stages. He has done architecture, performance and reliability work for Major League Baseball (mlb.com), several financial information and transaction clearing networks, and is currently defining next-generation interactive services as part of Sun's technology partnership with the National Hockey League. Hal's current technical interests include content delivery networks, privacy and security of large-scale systems, digital rights management for on-line and off-line use, network identity, structured data management, reliability and software quality measurement, applying telecommunications network principles to large-scale data centers, and the future of database systems. Hal has been at Sun more than 10 years, having previously held the titles of Chief Architect for Sun Professional Services, CTO of the Sun ONE (iPlanet) infrastructure products division as Chief Technologist of the Northeast US sales area. Hal became the first employee from the field organization promoted to the position of Distinguished Systems Engineer in February 1995. Hal was one of the creators of the first Java Day, held in New York City in September 1995. He received a Sun President's Award in 1993 for contribution to Sun's product strategies in clustered systems. He is listed as inventor or co-inventor on three patents related to network applications. Hal is a frequent speaker at industry and technical conferences. He has co-authored two books, "Blueprints for High Availability", published by John Wiley and Sons and "Managing NFS and NIS," published by O'Reilly and Associates. He wrote the system administration column and served as contributing editor for SunWorld Magazine for five years, and was on the editorial staff and advisory board of IDG's JavaWorld magazine. Before joining Sun, Hal developed molecular modeling software for a Boston area start up company and was on the research staff at Princeton University. Hal earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Princeton University in 1984.
William Vass William Vass is Vice President of Information Technology Operations at Sun Microsystems. He is responsible for all of Sun's internal IT infrastructure, supporting a global organization comprised of over 50,000 users. As part of Sun's Professional Services organization, Mr. Vass works closely with the CIO to provide integrated IT support for the company. Prior to joining Sun, Mr. Vass worked in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Office of the CIO. In addition, Mr. Vass was technical lead for the entire DoD Y2K program. He represents DoD to Congress, the White House, and other nations. Prior to joining the Office of the CIO, Mr. Vass was CTO and Technical Lead for Army personnel systems worldwide. Mr. Vass has over 20 years of technical and IT management experience.
Dr. Michael Wenger is Director of eLearning for Sun Educational Services, the training organization for Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW). In this position, he architects, integrates, and leads Sun's eLearning business strategies. Dr. Wenger brings to Sun a rich history that blends management and learning theory and practice. Prior to his current position, Dr. Wenger owned his own international consulting organization specializing in helping companies develop sound business strategies and processes. His focus was on implementing change in fast-paced, multi-cultural, environments. Dr. Wenger also served as Assistant Professor of Management at Washington State University, where he founded a program for helping develop entrepreneurial ventures in all business sectors. As the assistant department head and Associate Professor of Management at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Dr. Wenger designed and facilitated tenured faculty workshops on course design and learning theory. And coupled with his deep academic experience, Dr. Wenger held operations management positions in several challenging areas for the Air Force. Dr. Wenger received a BS degree in Engineering Management from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1973, an MBA in Organizational Psychology and Theory from UCLA in 1974, and his Ph.D. in International Management and Organization Communication and Control from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom in 1985. He holds several noted honors and distinctions, and he has published a number of articles and papers,including the soon-to-be released "Back to the Basics: An Executive Guide to Knowledge Management Architecture."
Thomas A. Yap Mr. Yap is the Executive Managing Director of Sun Professional Services for Asia Pacific. He leads a regional team of Asia Pacific technical consultants and system integrators that is among the fastest growing organizations within Sun Microsystems, Inc. Prior to the SunPS role, Mr. Yap was the Director of Sun's distributed multimedia framework engineering development. He also managed business strategic relationships with major European and Asian media manufacturers. Mr. Yap pioneered and managed Sun's software engineering group for the internationalization and localization of Sun's operating system and utilities. He was the Chairman of Uniforum I18N Committee in 1991. Before Sun, he worked at Boeing Aerospace as one of the early UNIX system and network architects.
