How it Works

Hot Desk technology
Hot Desk technology enables client sessions to be maintained on the server and be instantly available to any user, at any time, from anywhere within the workgroup.

Sun Ray 1 Enterprise Appliance Enabled by Hot Desk technology, the Sun Ray 1 enterprise appliance is a simple, low-cost device that requires no desktop administration, is centrally managed and draws all computing resources from the Sun Ray enterprise server software running on Sun servers.

Sun Ray Enterprise Server Software The Sun Ray enterprise server software provides system management and administration for the Sun Ray 1 enterprise appliance.

TCO
Total cost of ownership includes, but is not limited to, day-to-day system management by an IT manager, upgrade costs (both software hard costs and installation time), downtime due to equipment or software failure and local administration.

Stateless
No application or system code runs on the appliance.

Thin client
A simple hardware device that relies on most of the function of the system to reside and function from the server.

X-terminal
An X-terminal is an intelligent terminal that operates as an X serve directly connected to Ethernet.

Smart card
Any plastic card (like a credit card) with an embedded integrated circuit for storing information.
