What is JXTA?

JXTA is an open, generalized peer-to-peer platform for bringing devices, services, and networks together. It enables any connected device on the network to communicate and collaborate in a peer-to-peer environment. It's an open source technology available royalty-free and actively supported by a growing community of P2P developers.

With the help of the developer community, the JXTA technology aims to allow quicker, easier, more natural access to critical information and resources. It runs on any device, including cell phones, PDAs, two-way pagers, electronic sensors, desktop computers, and servers

The JXTA technology creates connected communities. This gives users better access to content across multiple devices, regardless of location and takes the complexity out of the network and operating environments. The JXTA technology enables a more social style of computing to occur (people-to-people).

Project JXTA is an award winning technology that is all about communication, collaboration, and sharing, at work and at play. From instant messaging to transactional web services to interactive gaming, this innovative technology provides an open, generalized platform for building the peer-to-peer (P2P) applications that will shape the future of the Internet.

What JXTA Means for Sun

The goal of JXTA is to make it easier to use the Internet, harnessing the value of the network across multiple platforms. The value of more efficiently accessing useful information drives more users to the network centric computing model for which Sun provides the infrastructure. JXTA is a piece of this infrastructure and will make it easy for developers to create innovative applications.
