Sun Chief Researcher John Gage to Host Second Life's First-Ever Fortune 500 Press Conference

Friday, October 6, 2006

Sun Microsystems will launch its presence in the virtual world Second Life next week, holding the first 'in-world' press conference by a Fortune 500 company at the opening of the company's new virtual Sun Pavilion. The event will be hosted by Sun Chief Researcher John Gage. Second Life is a key example of what Sun is calling the Participation Age, and the next evolution of the network as the computer.

Gage, appearing in avatar form, will discuss the purpose and goals of Sun's foray into Second Life. He'll address the opportunities for experimentation with new forms of communication, collaboration and economic activity in the virtual world. Chris Melissinos, Sun's chief gaming officer, will also speak during the event. Philip Linden, CEO of Linden Lab, the creator of Second Life, will also be on hand for the event.

After a question-and-answer session, attendees will be welcomed to tour the Sun facility and engage in informal discussion with Gage and Melissinos. Visitors will be able to view an exhibit of video kiosks, highlighting recent Sun innovations, events and Sun customer projects.
