Peter Young is the Vice President and General Manager of Sun Microsystems' Forte Tools. In this role, he provides leadership for product engineering and development, product marketing, and business development for Sun's developer tools business. This group is pioneering new business practices to better serve the development community, including the release of an open source integrated development environment (IDE), modular tool products from Sun and third parties, and a Web portal for product sales and distribution.

Mr. Young has 20 years of experience in the design, implementation and management of a broad spectrum of computer systems, ranging from real-time applications to the development of a commercial version of UNIX for a proprietary hardware platform. Prior to his 15 years at Sun Microsystems, Mr. Young was the Engineering Development Manager for Perkin-Elmer Data Systems Group, and a programmer with the Australian Government's Defense Department.

In 1971, Mr. Young received a BSc (Information Science) from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
