On September 30, 2004 Sun Microsystems released Java 2 Platform,
Standard Edition 5 (J2SE 5.0) to the worldwide Java community. Also
known as Project Tiger, J2SE 5.0 is recognized as the most
significant upgrade to the Java platform and programming language
since its initial release nearly one decade ago. J2SE is the
culmination of over 15 contributing projects in the Java Community
Process (JCP).
Attendees at JavaOne were enchanted by a visit with a cuddly baby white tiger named "Java." He joined Sun President Jonathan Schwartz and James Gosling, CTO for Sun's Developer Platforms Group, on stage at the annual gathering of the Java technology gliterrati.The animal-loving folks at Wild Animal Wonders report that Java is growing up quickly and now weighs over 100 pounds. He has been working hard as a full-time Tiger Ambassador traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad, raising money and awareness for Tiger Conservation.
