New Support Plan From Sun Microsystems Offers One Point of Contact for One Low PriceNew SunSpectrum Enterprise Service Plan Supports Solaris 10 Operating System(OS) Across Non-Sun x64/x86 Servers at Industry's Best Prices SANTA CLARA, Calif. June 19, 2007 Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) today announced the availability of the new SunSpectrum Enterprise Service Plan for enterprise customers. The new innovative modular support plan gives customers one blanket support contract for all Sun hardware and software at a single, low price, in addition to the option of support for non-Sun hardware as well. Sun is offering this "open" support service plan using modular building blocks that provides enterprise customers the ability to have one single point of contact for all covered support service issues, bringing simplicity and quick resolution for potential support issues.
Typically enterprise customers have many service contracts in place to support the different hardware and software that live within the datacenter. Sun's new SunSpectrum Enterprise Service Plan will consolidate Sun hardware and software contracts down to one, giving the customer one contact to manage all Sun-related support issues. On top of this base, Sun provides a series of optional services modules that act like building blocks and which may include:
"It's no secret that Sun is committed to open systems, software and storage and now we bring that model to our Services organization with the new SunSpectrum Enterprise Service plan," said Jeya Kumar, senior vice-president of Services, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "With almost three-fourths of Solaris 10 OS deployments on non-Sun hardware, Sun is well-versed in working with partners to help resolve datacenter issues quickly. We are taking this model one step further with this new offering that gives customers one 'throat to choke' for support issues, saving time and money through greater system uptime." Solaris 10 OS a Great Deal on non-x64/x86 Hardware With almost three-fourths (3/4) of Solaris 10 OS deployments on non-Sun hardware, enterprise customers enjoy the ability to mix and match industry standard hardware and software that meets ever-increasing computing needs. Sun offers premium support levels for the Solaris OS that are very competitive pricing versus other operating systems, including Red Hat Linux. The economics of a mature operating system like Solaris on both Sun Fire™ x64/86 and non-Sun industry standard hardware coupled with innovative and open support service options like the new SunSpectrum Enterprise Service Plan demonstrate Sun as the optimal infrastructure partner for today's enterprises.
