Sun Microsystems Announces Internet Availability of 2007 Annual Stockholders' Meeting Proxy Materials Per New SEC Notice and Access Rule

SANTA CLARA, Calif. September 25, 2007 Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA) today announced the Internet availability of proxy materials for its 2007 Annual Meeting of Stockholders under the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's new Notice and Access rule. Sun's proxy materials can now be found on the Company's investor relations website at http://www.sun.com/investors. By following the new Notice and Access rule, Sun has reduced the number of printed copies of its proxy materials this year by more than 90 percent, both lowering the cost and reducing the environmental impact of producing and delivering these materials.

"The Internet presents the fairest and most direct mechanism for the dissemination of all information - investor information is no different," said Jonathan Schwartz, president and CEO of Sun Microsystems. "Providing our proxy materials over the Internet, with printed materials on request only, increases the transparency of our business, reduces what we introduce into the waste stream, and simultaneously pares down the needless expense of paper filings. Everyone wins."

Sun is one of the first large accelerated filers (issuers having a market capitalization of $700 million or more) to adopt the notice and access rule. As an alternative to the traditional approach of delivering a printed set of proxy materials to each stockholder, companies may now deliver a "Notice of Internet Availability of Proxy Materials" to stockholders, provide Internet access to the proxy materials, and provide a printed set of proxy materials by mail to any stockholder who requests them.

Sun's 2007 annual report on Form 10-K and proxy statement have been filed with the SEC, and may be viewed on Sun's website at http://www.sun.com/investors. Sun's stockholders may obtain hard copies of Sun's proxy materials free of charge by following the instructions provided on the company's website or in the "Notice of Internet Availability of Proxy Materials".

The Sun Microsystems 2007 Annual Meeting of Stockholders will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. (PST) at Sun's Santa Clara Campus, located at 4030 George Sellon Circle, Santa Clara, California 95054.
