Agfa Healthcare Selects Sun Systems to Power Integrated Healthcare Imaging Solution

SANTA CLARA, CA November 27, 2007 Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: JAVA) today announced that Agfa Healthcare has chosen to use Sun infrastructure for its IMPAX digital imaging platform with the integrated visualization solution from Barco. Agfa Healthcare will offer the FDA-approved solution on Sun Ultra 40 M2 Workstations and a Sun Fire X2100 M2 server. Agfa Healthcare selected Sun systems following a successful proof of concept trial conducted between Agfa and Barco that demonstrated the use of multiple graphics cards to accelerate server-based rendering, along with the high disk and network performance required to provide rapid multi-user access to volumetric studies.

As part of Agfa's IMPAX Suites for digital imaging powered by Sun systems, the Voxar 3D Enterprise offering from Barco provides an encompassing set of integrated visualization and analysis tools designed to increase the clinical depth of the solution. The solution will allow medical professionals to read large datasets anywhere in the facility without compromising image quality or speed, providing enhanced reading options in vessel analysis, cardiac analysis, CT colonography and PET/CT fusion. Sun's systems were chosen to enable these clinical applications to run smoothly on IMPAX.

"The clinical depth that this integrated solution provides ultimately leads to more accurate diagnosis and better patient care," said Erkan Akyuz CTO and Manager of the Imaging Informatics Business Unit, Agfa Healthcare. "By choosing Sun systems as the platform for IMPAX and the Voxar 3D Enterprise, we're able to offer a highly competitive solution that has great potential for improving on overall care."

"Sun is pleased to be able to strengthen our relationship with Agfa to help create an advanced visualization server and workstation platform," said Joerg Schwarz, Director of Global Healthcare and Life Sciences, Sun Microsystems. "The performance, speed and streamlined features of the Voxar 3D Enterprise solution are optimized when running on Sun technology. We're looking forward to helping Agfa extend this powerful new solution to the medical community."

The solution running on Sun systems will be on display at the RSNA conference on November 25-30 in Chicago. For more information, please visit Agfa at booth 4106 (South Building – Hall A). Sun will be at RSNA at booth 5155 (South Building – Hall A), and more information is available at www.sun.com/healthcare.
