User Guide for NIS to LDAP Transition Tool

This document is a superset of the information contained in Chapter 19 "Transitioning From NIS to LDAP" in the System Administration Guide: Naming and Directory Services (DNS, NIS, and LDAP) book (found on the Sun Product Documentation site: http://docs.sun.com).

The former presents a relatively simple "cookbook" approach for first time users. This document contains technical detail for the more advanced user. The author plans to make additions to this document as new deployment techniques are discovered.

This document has the following structure:

• Section 1: Overview
• Section 2: N2L viewed from the perspective of several types of user and administrator
• Section 3: Discussion of commonly seen problems and solutions in a question and answer format
• Section 4 : Some examples of how the mapping file could be customized to support specific maps
• Section 5: Description of how to modify the LDAP schema to support case-sensitive attributes
• Section 6: Glossary

IMPORTANT NOTE: This document is intended for developers and advanced users only. The N2L tool is not yet available and is scheduled for integration into a future release of the Solaris OS. User documentation will be available with these releases.
