Disk Configuration for Sun Blade X6250 Server Module

Configuring Disks on the Sun Blade X6250 Server Module

A Sun Blade X6250 Server Module holds up to four 2.5-inch SAS or SATA hard disk drives. New drives need to be set up using the RAID Configuration Utility. The following instructions assume that there are two disk drives in the Sun Blade X6250 Server Module.

User input is shown in bold. Selections are made by moving the cursor with the arrow keys and then pressing either Enter or Insert as shown.

1. Connect a keyboard, mouse, and monitor to the dongle cable that comes with the Sun Blade 6000 modular system. Plug the dongle cable into the front of the X6250 blade.

2. Power on the X6250 blade by pressing the small power button on the front of the unit.

As the machine is booting, it will get to a point where it displays:

RAID BIOS V5.2.0

Then a prompt for the RAID Configuration Utility appears:

Ctrl-A to bring up the Adaptec RAID Configuration Utility

3. Press Ctrl-A to enter into the utility. The following menu appears:

Sun STK RAID REM Controller #0

   Options
    Array Configuration Utility
    SerialSelect Utility
    Disk Utilities

4. Select: Array Configuration Utility

The Utility comes up and the Main Menu appears:

   Main Menu
    Manage Arrays
    Create Array
    Initialize Drives
    Rescan Drives
    Secure Erase Drives

5. Select: Initialize Drives

The disk drives are presented and must be selected:

   Select drives for Initialization
    J3  :Dev00  FUJITSU MAUZ2073RC  68.36GB
    J3  :Dev01  FUJITSU MAUZ2073RC  68.36GB

6. Select: J3 :Dev00 FUJITSU MAUZ2073RC 68.36GB

7. Select: J3 :Dev01 FUJITSU MAUZ2073RC 68.36GB

   Selected Drives
    J3  :Dev00  FUJITSU MAUZ2073RC  68.36GB
    J3  :Dev01  FUJITSU MAUZ2073RC  68.36GB

  Warning: Initialization will erase any Array information.....

8. Create a storage array using the disk drives.

First disk

   Main Menu
    Manage Arrays
    Create Array
    Initialize Drives
    Rescan Drives
    Secure Erase Drives

9. Select: Create Array

Select drives to create Array

10. Select: J3 :Dev00 FUJITSU MAUZ2073RC 68.36GB

   Array Properties

    Create Array

11. Select: Create Array

13. Verify the configuration and finish.

The machine reboots and both of the disks are found.

The Sun Blade X6250 Server Module is now ready to have the operating system installed.
