Microsoft Windows Integration on the Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage SystemRyan H. Pratt, September 2009 IntroductionThis implementation guide discusses using the Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System in a Microsoft Windows environment. (Release 2009.Q2 was used in this scenario.) The Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System series allows for Common Internet File System (CIFS) authentication to a Microsoft Active Directory (AD) database or using local users on the Sun storage system in workgroup mode. There is no facility to store Microsoft Windows users in Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). The AD service provides access to a Microsoft Active Directory database, which stores information about users, groups, shares, and other shared objects.
