Detail
Type: Networking
Manufacturer: Intel
Model: PRO/1000T Desktop Adapter (PWLA8390T)
Level: (What's this?) Reported to Work (Solaris 10, Solaris Developer Express Only)
Note: All OpenSolaris entries are 'Reported to Work'
Runs on Solaris Versions: Solaris 9 12/02 to Solaris 10 05/08 (including Solaris Express, Developer Edition 01/08)
OpenSolaris 2008.05
Technology Type: Networking: Gigabit Ethernet
Card Type: PCI
Chipset: 82544GC(Copper)
Driver Name: e1000g
Driver Version: 4.0.12
Driver Info: To support the desktop version, the /kernel/drv/e1000g file needs to be binary edited, to alter the pci devices probed. Change the occurrence of 8086 0000 100d 0000 to 8086 0000 100c 0000. (This will stop the LOM version of this card working as well in your system
if you have both card types installed in your system.)

Add the driver with the following command

add_drv -i '"pci8086,1000" "pci8086,1001" "pci8086,1004" "pci8086,1008"
"pci8086,1009" "pci8086,100c" "pci8086,100e" "pci8086,100f" "pci8086,1010"
"pci8086,1011" "pci8086,1012" "pci8086,1015" "pci8086,1016" "pci8086,1017"
"pci8086,101e" "pci8086,1013" "pci8086,1014" "pci8086,1018" "pci8086,1019"
"pci8086,101a"' -b "$BASEDIR" -m '* 0666 root root' e1000g

Reboot and the card should be found.

thanks for being so specific about what it takes to make this device work with Solaris

Greetings. As a Tech Support Engineer who helps customers install Solaris x86, I make use of the online HCL. Today I had a case involving a Dell system in which he also has an Intel Pro1000MT network card (unfortunately the actual 1000 suffix letters I didn't keep). He has Solaris 9 4/03 installed and wishes to use the Pro1000. When I look at the HCL (and talk with Mike Riley as well), I find that the HCL currently says the Pro1000 cards work with Solaris 9 12/02. The entries for the Pro1000 cards have a link to View which loads a document that says using add_drv will get the card working. My customer even in Solaris 9 4/03 does not have a /kernel/drv/e1000g or e1000g.conf file. Mike pointed out that the version indicates (12/02) does not support the cards by merely doing the add_drv process. The other issue that I have is that the HCL does not indicate a driver needs to be downloaded from any 3rd party vendors. Only with Mike's help could I do a Google search that helped me locate a Solaris driver on the Intel.com site for Solaris. By using that driver, there is no need to do the add_drv routine either.
