Solaris has trouble with the multiple IDE channels so you need to use Configuration Assistant to delete the IDE controller and add a separate device for each channel. Unfortunately this has to be redone at each reboot as the Configuration Assistant does not allow you to save a default device tree (very odd) and instead rescans and rebuilds the tree each time. In Configuration Assistant, delete the IDE controller and add these replacement IDE devices: First device: Ports: 1f0-1f7, 3f6, 8b0-8b7 Int: 14 DMA:0 Second device: Ports: 170-177, 376, 8b8-8bf Int: 15 DMA:3 To add the multiple ports for each device, you have to add them one at a time and Config Assistant will append. Alternatively you can turn off the IDE controller in BIOS and install a SCSI cdrom and disks.
