This test suite enables independent hardware vendors
(IHVs), system manufacturers, system integrators,
and end users to certify their systems and components for the Solaris
OS
on x86 and x64 platforms. All hardware that passes certification
testing is eligible
to be included in the Solaris OS Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) as a
certified system or component.
Be sure to use the most up-to-date version of HCTS.
Check the
HCTS web site frequently to see whether a newer version is available.
It
is highly recommended that you back up your test systems and install
the
most up-to-date version of the Solaris OS for x86 platforms. Check the
Solaris
10 Operating System web site or the Solaris Express, Developer Edition
web site
to see whether a newer version of the Solaris OS is available.
Note - Before you
use HCTS, be sure to check whether the system you
want to test is already listed on the Solaris OS Hardware Compatibility
Lists
(HCL) as Certified.
If your hardware is listed as Reported To Work, you
might be able to
use HCTS to upgrade that listing to Certified. Some types of components
cannot be certified.
If your system is not listed, use the Sun Device
Detection Tool or
the Installation Check Tool to determine quickly whether your system is
likely to be able to install the Solaris OS.
To test systems, network components, and serial I/O
components, you must use two
test machines:
System Under Test (SUT) — This is the system you want to
certify, or the system that has the device you want to certify.
Test Manager system (TM) — This
system is used by the SUT to test network and serial I/O devices. The
TM should be a system that is already listed on the HCL as Certified.
See the table below to get information on the machine
requirements for specific
tests:

Test Environment Setup Options
The following options can be used for setting up your
test environment.
System, Network, and Serial I/O Testing
Follow the instructions in Chapter 2,
System, Network, and Serial I/O Test Environment Setup, if
you want to do system, network, or
serial I/O testing. Using these instructions, you must install the
Solaris OS and
HCTS separately on the Test Manager system and on the System Under
Test.
Then you choose which kind of testing you want to do.
