Creating the HCTS Test Environment

As described in the previous chapter, HCTS requires two test machines, System Under Test (SUT) and the Test Manager (TM). Be sure both the systems are up and running. The configurations that are to be done on SUT and TM systems depend upon the type of certifications that are carried out.

Number of Machines Required for Each Certification

A few types of certification, such as system, network, serial I/O, WiFi, and InfiniBand, require both the TM and SUT. On the other hand, only SUT needs to be set up for the certification of storage, CD or DVD reader and writer, video, audio, CPU memory, USB devices, and virtual platforms.

See Table 2–1 to get more information on the machine requirements for specific tests. The table lists all the types of tests and indicates the number of machines required for each type of the test. The entry Yes indicates that the particular type of certification requires the respective number of test machines that it refers. For example, if you want to do the system certification, you might need to arrange two test systems.

Creating HCTS Test Environment

The HCTS environment should be created depending upon the type of hardware or system that needs to be certified. Based on the method of creating test environment, the hardware or systems can be categorized into two groups as follows:

• System, Network, InfiniBand, WiFi, and Serial I/O Testing - requires TM and SUT.

• USB, Storage, CD/DVD, CPU/Memory, Audio, and Video Testing - requires only the SUT.
