The HCL contains a ton of useful info that you can slice and dice in various ways. For example, you can sort by system category (for instance, all servers),
by recently submitted systems, and by component categories (for example, CDROM/DVD drive). Within each category, you can drill down further to see info only
on particular models or only by particular manufacturers. At any time, you can jump straight to a page where you can search the HCL.
For examples of how to use the HCLs, see Solaris HCL Overview
and OpenSolaris HCL Overview. These pages illustrate how to find info for Solaris and OpenSolaris
on HP hardware, but the techniques that are demonstrated can be applied for other vendors, systems, and components.
Sun's Device Detection Tool, which determines whether Solaris 10 or OpenSolaris
can run the devices on your x86 or x64 system. (If your devices are already shown in the HCL, or if you purchased a system preconfigured with
Solaris from HP, you do not need to use this tool.)
Installation Check Tool, which lets you verify that a system is ready to install the
Solaris 10 OS before you actually run the installation. (If the system you want to test already exists in the Solaris HCL, you do not need to
use this tool.)
Hardware Certification Test Suite, which certifies that your
x64/x86 system or component runs the Solaris OS. All hardware that passes certification testing is eligible to be included in the Solaris HCL
as a certified system or component. (If your system or component is already shown in the HCL, you do not need to use this tool.)
Sun's Solaris on HP Servers web site, which provides info about the expanded,
multi-year agreement for HP to distribute and support the Solaris 10 OS on HP ProLiant server and blade platforms
An agreement between Sun and Dell gives Solaris customers an expanded option of pre-configured certified systems, and enables Dell customers to
leverage the advanced security, virtualization, and scalability features of the Solaris OS. This agreement makes
it easy to acquire an integrated Solaris based solution that has extensive back-line support.
Sun's Solaris on Dell Servers web site, which provides info about the
Hardware Certification Test Suite (HCTS), Solaris innovations, Solaris benchmark info, and more
As part of the Sun and IBM agreement, IBM provides customers Standard and Premium Solaris support subscriptions with select x86-based IBM System x servers and
BladeCenter servers. Here are resources for running the Solaris or OpenSolaris OS on IBM hardware:
Sun and Intel web site, which describes a family of 2-core, 4-core, and 6-core Intel Xeon processor-based Sun
systems that can deliver industry-leading performance, density, and energy efficiency while running the Solaris OS, Linux, Windows, and VMware
Inside Solaris Engineering videos, which describe how Solaris
delivers record breaking performance, power efficiency, and reliability on Intel Xeon Processor 5500 systems
A partnership between Sun and the Digital Products Division of Toshiba America Information Systems means you can get Toshiba's award winning laptops
preinstalled with the OpenSolaris OS.
