BigAdmin Tools and Applications

BigAdmin provides the following tools and applications, which support OpenSolaris:

• The OpenSolaris Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) identifies systems and peripherals that are compatible with OpenSolaris and provides information about available software support.

  The HCL contains a ton of useful info that you can slice and dice in various ways. For example, you can sort by system category (for instance, all servers), by recently submitted systems, and by component categories (for example, CDROM/DVD drive). Within each category, you can drill down further to see info only on particular models or only by particular manufacturers. At any time, you can jump straight to a page where you can search the HCL.

  For an example of how to use the HCL to find info for OpenSolaris on various hardware (in this case, HP hardware), see OpenSolaris HCL Overview.

• The Sun Device Detection Tool determines whether OpenSolaris can run the devices on your x86 or x64 system. (If your devices are already shown in the HCL, you do not need to use this tool.)

• The Hardware Certification Test Suite certifies that your x64/x86 system or component runs the OpenSolaris. All hardware that passes certification testing is eligible to be included in the HCL as a certified system or component. (If your system or component is already shown in the HCL, you do not need to use this tool.)

• The Device and Third-party Solaris Device Driver Reference Lists provide lists of third-party OpenSolaris device drivers that are used by hardware devices.

• The Device Drivers page on opensolaris.org* provides information about how drivers work in OpenSolaris.
