This page provides links to best-practices and how-to info, tools, documentation, training courses, and other resources that can help you prepare
for and execute an upgrade. Also see the Patching section of this site for patching resources.
The Upgrading and Patching with Solaris Live Upgrade
how-to guide (updated Sept. 2008; registration required) provides an overview of using Solaris Live Upgrade for OS upgrades and patching, as well as an example of
using Solaris Live Upgrade to upgrade from one Solaris release to a later one and an example of using Solaris Live Upgrade to patch a system.
For procedures on upgrading using various installation programs, see the How-To page of BigAdmin's
Solaris Information Center, which provides procedures for getting started with
Solaris Live Upgrade, JumpStart, WAN boot, Solaris Flash archives, and more.
The Solaris 10 Applications Library shows over 11,000 applications and
solutions that run on the Solaris 10 OS on x64/x86 and SPARC platforms, so you can ensure you'll be able to run the apps you need and get the power of
the Solaris OS.
The Sun Device Detection Tool helps you determine whether the Solaris OS
supports the devices that are detected in your x86 or x64 system. If your devices are already shown on the Solaris OS HCL, you
do not need to use this tool.
The third-party Patch Check Advanced (PCA) Tool* generates a list
of installed and missing patches for Solaris systems and optionally downloads patches.
