Web 2.0 Resources for System Administrators

Overview

At Sun, "Web 2.0" means three things:

  • Richer interactivity on web sites
  • The use of "mashups" (web applications that combine data from several sources into one, integrated tool)
  • Helping customers interact with us and each other in web communities

As a sys admin, should you care? Does Web 2.0 really affect you and the way you do your job?

We think it might, if not today, then possibly tomorrow. For instance, you might need to ensure greater system availability and decide who has access to what information. You might also need to adopt open, standards-based technologies to eliminate incompatibility among user platforms. And you might have an increasingly difficult time predicting storage requirements.
