Boot Disk Management: A Guide for the Solaris Operating Environment

By John S. Howard, and David Deeths

250 pages
ISBN 0-13-062153-6

Boot Disk Management examines the life cycle of the Solaris Operating Environment (Solaris OE) and its boot disk. Recommendations and methods for selecting hardware and partitioning the Solaris OE boot disk are presented in detail. Additionally, this book provides recommendations for installing the Solaris OE, as well as recommendations for managing Solaris OE upgrades with Live Upgrade.

This book also provides best practices for selecting a logical volume manager and configuring Solstice DiskSuite (also known as Solaris Volume Manager) or VERITAS Volume Manager to manage the Solaris OE boot disk. The reference configurations presented demonstrate how these recommendations can be used to help improve system reliability, serviceability, and recovery time.
