Corporate Social Responsibility"We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give." - Sir Winston Churchill In Sun, the tradition of giving back to the communities where we live and work is woven into the fabric of who we are. Volunteering is a proud part of Sun's culture, and we have a long history of reaching out to communities around the world. Sun created Worldwide Volunteer Week (WWVW) week in 1994, and designated one week per year where employees are encouraged to organize their co-workers, friends and families, and get out there to make a difference. Since its inception thirteen years ago, over 10,000 employees have participated in WWVWs, devoting a total of 85,000 hours and averaging 120 projects each year. Our online Global Giving Drive, held annually, also provides employees with a convenient way to give toward general or specific relief efforts year round. Over the years, thousands of dollars have been raised by the Sun workforce to aid disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and the South Asian tsunami. In disasters like these, financial contributions are the best way to help, to purchase food, medicine and other supplies near the disaster. Employee donations are automatically matched by the Sun Microsystems Foundation (yearly limits apply), via the Employee Matching Gifts Program. The Sun volunteer community demonstrates compassion and commitment to helping others year after year. We welcome you to join us in our efforts to deliver positive economic, environmental and social benefits to the communities where we live and work. |
