Your resume is one of your most powerful tools. Make sure your resume is clean, easy to read, and includes relevant information about your experience, education, and skills.
Most companies use database systems to track and manage resumes. There are some simple rules to follow to ensure that your resume is processed efficiently:
- Clearly identify each section of your resume (Education, Experience, Skills, References, etc.)
- Use definitive, concise words that describe your qualifications.
- Avoid small or unfamiliar fonts. (12 point Arial, Sans-Serif, Times, etc.).
- Make an ASCII (text version) as well as formatted version of your resume. Make sure the ASCII version looks good (you may need to reformat the text-only version).
- Do not include graphics or photos. Include hyperlinks if necessary.
- Do not include non-relevant data (such as a cover letter or other attachments) in your resume. These can be provided separately.
- Check with your campus career center. They're an excellent resource and can help you showcase your skills most effectively.
