SolutionReplace Sun Enterprise 4500 servers running Oracle applications with Sun Fire T2000 servers for optimum price-performance ratio with minimum footprint and power consumption and ability to process multiple streams of data Business Results
Story DetailsIn 2000, GENEZIS established a datacenter to deploy Oracle ERP Applications running on two Sun Enterprise 4500 servers. Until recently these machines have successfully handled the workload, and there was no need to replace them. However, rapid growth of the holding company’s business, together with increased information volume and number of transactions, finally pushed these workhorses to the limit. GENEZIS needed more computing power to continue to grow, so the company’s management decided to evaluate new servers. GENEZIS tested the Sun Fire T2000 server and found that it offered the industry’s best price-performance ratio, especially when processing multiple data streams simultaneously. So the company chose the T2000 for its new platform.
"
We are pleased with our cooperation with Sun Microsystems. We are especially attracted by the fact that this company develops innovative products and solutions. We are always very interested in Sun’s new products, and try to test and use those that can help us solve our specific problems.

The Sun Fire T2000 server, introduced in December 2005, was the first server developed from scratch to handle the workloads of Internet infrastructures, as well as Web services, applications and distributed database systems. UltraSPARC T1 processor-based systems have already set over 20 world records in benchmarks, and set new performance, energy consumption and space utilization standards. Unique multi-threaded CoolThreads computing technology delivers exceptional performance per watt on Sun Fire T2000 server running the Solaris 10 Operating System. Sun Fire T2000 servers support parallel execution of up to 32 computing threads, and up to 32 gigabytes of system memory in a rack-mountable 2RU chassis. The T2000 consumes only approximately 325 watts in standard operating conditions―about one-third of the energy consumption typical of systems of this class. In new SWaP (space, watts and power) benchmarks, the Sun Fire T2000 server has also demonstrated the best results among similar systems designed to process transactions and provide Web services. These benchmarks reflect the most important parameters for modern datacenters, such as performance per unit of rack space occupied and performance per watt. This server also provides considerable headroom for growth and scalability. The distinctive feature of the Sun Fire T2000 is the high availability level of the system due to excellent reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) characteristics of both the processor and the memory, as well as redundancy of the system components and the functions of proactive self-recovery of Solaris OS. Sun continues to invest actively in technology innovations for hardware multi-threading, and is making Chip Multi-Threading (CMT) technology available throughout its entire product line, from entry-level models up to high- performance systems in the second half of the 2008 calendar year. GENEZIS Holding will be examining these new products to find cost-effective technology such as the Sun Fire T2000 server. |
