Story Details

Empee Distilleries faced a number of challenges such as the need to unify business processes across its distributed architecture and integrate islands of information that made it difficult for employees to keep up with rapidly changing business needs. The management realized that in order to be a successful organization in the current competitive scenario, it required a centralized IT infrastructure to run an efficient and effective ERP system.

Empee chose to unify its ERP processes by deploying SAP ECC 5.0, along with SAP Enterprise Portal, Business Information Warehouse and Solution Manager. The company then selected Sun Fire X4100 servers with dual-core AMD Opteron processors as the optimum platform for running the SAP applications. The scalable x64 servers, which run Microsoft Windows at Empee, also give the company the choice to run Solaris Operating System or Linux and combine high performance with low electric power and space requirements.

" Our aim was to deploy an IT infrastructure that would help to integrate our business processes, make information available at all levels of the company, and be sufficiently flexible to allow us to innovate. As the backbone of our SAP implementation, we deployed the high performing and scalable Sun Fire X4100 servers, along with the Sun StorageTek 3320 SCSI array from Sun Microsystems. "
— Mr. Jacob Mani, Vice President, Empee Distilleries

Empee evaluated several alternatives, but selected the Sun x64 servers based on their superior-price performance. Empee has deployed a total of 7 Sun Fire X4100 server nodes encompassing SAP development, quality assurance and production environments. Empee also deployed a Sun StorageTek 3320 SCSI array, which is fully populated with 876 GB of data.

The Sun platform has helped Empee successfully standardize its ERP systems on SAP and meet its targets of availability, scalability and performance. This agile and scalable server infrastructure gives Empee the flexibility to deploy and integrate new applications for the future as well.

Accel Frontline Systems Ltd, a Sun Advantage Partner, assisted with the Sun Fire server implementation. Empee Group has implemented SAP first in Empee Distilleries Ltd. and now plans to roll it out to other group companies.

“Empee is going through a complex evolutionary process,” concludes Jacob Mani, Vice President of Empee Distilleries. “The highly scalable Sun Fire X4100 systems and SAP solution gives us the right competitive edge to help ensure the success of our business.”
